ABOUT

Hello, welcome to your local Yoga & Wellbeing space & welcome to your rested self.

Whether you are at the start of your journey, or have been finding your way for many years, the beauty of it all is that everyone’s path is different.  We come together to practice yoga in a supportive environment and reap the benefits of holistic therapies. From different styles of Yoga and Sound Healing, to Pilates, Pre & Post Natal support, craft groups, Reiki &  Meditation, our Flintshire Yoga Studio offers you complete wellness to fine-tune your body and strengthen your mind & activate the healer within.

Who We Are

We are an independent, community-focused Yoga & Wellbeing Space in Buckley, Flintshire, that strives to create positive change and provide a sanctuary for our students.

We believe yoga is for everyone and as such we aim to serve people from all walks of life and all ages – from babies through to people in their 80s – with differing levels of experience and abilities. As part of our commitment to inclusivity, we also offer 1x community mat for every class to a person who would benefit but isn't able to for financial circumstances, to help make healing and wellness accessible to everyone.

We aim to share yoga with our community through our exceptionally experienced, insured, talented and knowledgeable senior teachers who honour the tradition of yoga as well as respecting modern advances. Most of our teachers have a minimum of 5 + years of teaching experience and they cultivate an environment where students can practice in safety, comfort and at the right level of challenge to meet their individual needs. Studio owner Gemma, is certified Trauma Informed & feels very strongly about creating feelings of safety & support in a non judgemental & informed space.

Our Ethos

We are grateful to have the opportunity to provide a place of healing and nurture for those who come through our doors. We strive to place Yoga ethics at the heart of our organisation, from our business practices to consideration of the environment. Our studio is as non-toxic as possible. One of these tenants includes Ahimsa, non-harm and this principle is woven into the fabric of what we do. Our practice ethos specifically involves teaching students to tune into their needs in class and to challenge themselves in a way that is detached from striving, competitiveness and goals. We encourage practitioners to learn how to practice in a way that is attuned to self-nourishment, physically, emotionally and often spiritually.

Our teachers aim to honour the yamas and niyamas (ethical principles of yoga) and bring their experience and knowledge of the practice to facilitate growth on your own personal journey. We firmly believe that Yoga teachers are not gurus, meaning they are human, not perfect enlightened beings to be revered. We always welcome students’ feedback so that our teachers can continue to grow as teachers themselves.

Yoga is about inclusivity and we do not tolerate discrimination in any form. We often offer low cost places in all our classes and workshops & 1x free community space per class for those who would not otherwise be able to access yoga. We also offer concessions on our class passes for full-time students, unemployed and those who have retired from work – please email us to enquire about these.

“we hold true, that we are each a part of something bigger”

History

The Healing Space was born out of our founder, Gemma's love for Yoga. Gemma has used this ancient practice to heal & work through childhood trauma, cervical cancer & many other life events, finding that talking therapies just wasn't working for her, she realised she needed to work with the body to release held tension.

Her first experience of Yoga was Ashtanga & Vinyasa, which really helped to foster a sense of discipline, balance & strength, before falling in love with the more "passive" & slow practices such as Yin Yoga, Yoga Nidra, Sound Healing & Somatics. Going into her 30s with a toolkit of tried & tested healing modalities that work on healing trauma from within, to help us find ways to cope, heal & grow from what we go through, rather than ignoring or masking. Gemma knew she had to share this with as many people as possible! Taking her first yoga teacher training, a 50 hr in person program with Angela-Jervis Read, she learnt about philosophy & anatomy, combining her love of Spirituality & science based knowledge & became hooked! Furthering her studies & qualifications over the next 6 years with the following accredited training programs -

Gemma moved from Manchester to North Wales for a more peaceful, greener life & noticed straight away the lack of dedicated Yoga & Wellbeing Spaces & the idea of opening a studio was planted. Suddenly, a unit to rent became available and The Healing Space was born. It has been a wild & bumpy ride along the way but the commitment to open a communal space for all is the driving force for Gemma & she & the team can't wait to welcome you into the space.
